All That Jazz
Explore vibrant hues and dynamic expressions in this exciting collection of jazz-inspired paintings created for my current exhibition with Susan Birth at Ludlow Assembly Rooms.
Mingle with musical expression
Art to ignite your imagination
Fresh out of my studio, these pieces embody the spirit of improvisation and creative freedom that lie at the very heart of jazz.
In some of the pieces, thick layers and lashings of acrylic paint and mesmerising fusions of colour serve up a visual feast for the eyes that demands a closer look.
My seven ‘cut-out’ works, explore the interplay between individual expression and structured order. Each painting features a collection of distinctive components that, when combined, form a dynamic composition fusing the rhythmic complexity of jazz with a contemporary take on Bauhaus design.
“ There’s excitement about, as yet, unmade work and curiosity about the source of my inspiration. I’ve got a rough outline of a plan with a hazy destination in my mind. There’s also a sense of unease about the unfamiliar and the possibility of failure, disappointment and a pile of discarded art.”
